Sacrifice in Islam is not merely a ritual act — it is a profound expression of submission to Allah and gratitude for His blessings.
Allah says in the Quran (22:37): 'Their flesh and their blood reach not Allah, but the devotion from you reacheth Him.' This verse encapsulates the entire spiritual dimension of Qurbani: what matters is not the physical act, but the sincerity and taqwa (God-consciousness) behind it.
The act of sacrifice teaches us several profound lessons: detachment from material possessions, concern for those less fortunate, and the remembrance that everything we have is a trust from Allah.
When we donate our Qurbani to families in need, we transform a personal act of worship into a community act of care — fulfilling both our obligation to Allah and our responsibility to our fellow human beings.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'There is nothing dearer to Allah during the days of Qurbani than the sacrificing of animals. The sacrificed animal shall come on the Day of Qiyamah with its horns, hair and hooves. The sacrifice is accepted by Allah before the blood reaches the ground. Therefore sacrifice with an open and happy heart.' (Ibn Majah)
This hadith reminds us that we must understand not just the outer form of Qurbani, but its spirit. The intention in the heart determines the value of the act.
